The primary role of the Category Director is to provide strategic global product marketing, product planning, product leadership, and category management from a marketing, business, and product perspective in an assigned category. This role must provide futuristic insight into the needs of the consumer and be able to translate those to the product team, the other departments within the company, and ultimately the product. This position will provide category and product direction through extensive knowledge and experience of the category?s trends, competition, and future design influences. This role provides leadership for all aspects of the product creation process for the category product team. Provides the communication link between Sales, Marketing and Finance for the product team. Must always think of and balance the differences between domestic business and international business. Lastly, this role must be the product champion for the category within the company. This role in its essence is 1/3 marketing, 1/3 product, 1/3 sales in the ideal world, with the obvious bias towards maintaining product as kind at all times.
Essential Functions:
Strategic Business Planning/Product Marketing
1. Facilitates and creates category business plans incorporating Black Diamond Equipment business objectives and goals for revenue and margin
2. Provides overall category direction consistent with Product Line Director?s overall vision
3. Identifies market potential by defining category size and growth trends
4. Evaluates with Sales current and potential distribution opportunities
5. Forges special sales programs with OEM partners by identifying, establishing, coordinating, and handing off to sales
6. Identifies areas for new product extensions or category development
7. Drives research to clarify product and consumer needs
8. Works in conjunction with senior Product and Marketing leaders to drive communications and collateral consistent with product/brand direction
9. Identifies and proposes key category strategies consistent with Brand direction and consumer needs
10. Identifies and implements tactics necessary to fulfill key strategies
